Chakrabongse
Secluded, tranquil and exclusive, Chakrabongse Villas is picturesquely situated on the banks of Bangkok’s main thoroughfare, the Chao Phraya River and in the heart of historic Rattanakosin. At the centre of the property stands the beautifully regal Chakrabongse House that was built in 1908 for the 40th son of King Rama V, Prince Chakrabongse Bhuvanath. He used it for overnight stays and entertaining when attending royal ceremonies at the Grand Palace. Many years later, his granddaughter Narisa carefully transformed the extensive river view gardens once frequented by picnicking royalty into an enchanting four-suite boutique hotel.
Benefiting from panoramic river and lush garden views, each of the highly unique suites have been stylishly designed to offer guests a nostalgic and supremely comfortable base from which to return to after days spent exploring the city’s many attractions, markets and boutiques. Guests can brush up on Thailand’s history and learn about the country’s distinguished royalty in the spacious library or soak up the sun beside an inviting pool embraced by flowering trees and shrubs. Beyond the verdant garden and shimmering peacock-green sculpture pool is a stilted Dining Pavilion. Overlooking the theatrical panorama of the busy Chao Phraya river and the towering porcelain-bedecked Temple of the Dawn this is a very magical place to relax; sip at fine wines and savour tantalising Thai cuisine in splendour as the world quickly passes you by.
Benefiting from its own river launch, guests can arrange to leisurely explore the canals of Thonburi by buzzing long tail boat or take a water taxi to reach the city’s best shops and restaurants. For the ultimate experience, be whisked off in regal sophistication aboard the hotel’s leather-seated speedboat to visit some of the city’s furthest attractions in true elegance and style. With Wat Po just over the road and the Grand Palace only a ten-minute walk away, Chakrabongse is one of the most desirably sited hotels in the city.
