Shanghai Inn
For a hip hotel right in the heart of Bangkok’s historic Chinatown, Shanghai Inn is the perfect choice. An exhibition of beautiful styling, Shanghai Inn evokes the drama and opulence of the Orient through vivid colour schemes, lengthy lantern-lit corridors, reproduction Chinese furniture and metallic hand painted wallpaper. Located on vibrant Yaowarat Road in the middle of a tall building, Shanghai Inn offers 55 beautifully decorated en-suite rooms, a quaint Chinese tea house and an indulgent menu of rejuvenating treatments from the adjoining Yin Yang Massage and Spa.
The hotel is reached by elevator or escalator and the glamorous retro feel of the property envelopes you immediately on arrival alongside the warmth of the staff. Beautiful oversized lanterns are draped elegantly from the ceilings while flower-filled vases provide an exotic touch. The rooms are located on two floors around a central atrium decorated with brightly coloured inverted parasols which dangle from the ceiling as if floating in mid air. To one end of the atrium is a library packed with interesting reading material and sofas from where to enjoy it while to the other end is located the reception lobby and tea house.
Part of the attraction of staying in Shanghai Inn is having Chinatown right on your doorstep. A walk around this historic landmark to explore the many markets, stall-packed alleyways, glorious eateries and religious shrines is a multi-sensory experience not to be missed. To assist guests in making the most of Chinatown, Shanghai Inn has produced a unique guide to the area which provides vital information on Chinatown’s history as well as its cultural and gastronomical delights. A handy map ensures you will always find your way back home!
