Thailand for two

An ideal honeymoon

15 days / 14 nights

The brief was simple yet challenging. “Create for us an oriental dream. We want to lounge, laze, dance, dive, drive an elephant, trek and breakfast in bed!”. This one in a lifetime journey took our friends on the Eastern Orient Express to the north where they enjoyed the best of Chiang Mai in style. We took them trekking around Mae Taeng, and on to the Golden Triangle where they became honorary mahouts. We took them diving around Koh Phi Phi and they enjoyed sundowners on Thailand’s picture perfect beaches of the Andaman overlooking the perfect sunset. All before dancing the night away in Bangkok…

Highlights

+ A romantic oriental night on luxury train to the north
+ A two day soft trek into the jungles surrounding Chiang Mai.
+ A day with elephants!
+ Heavenly white sand beaches, turquoise waters
+ A night in the most romantic room in Bangkok!

Day by day

Chapter 1. One night in Bangkok
Day 1

On arrival we make arrangements for someone to whiz you through immigration and assist with your luggage. We meet you at the terminal building and drive with you into town. During this time we will tell you a little bit about Bangkok and address any questions you have. The drive takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour.

You will be staying in the most romantic room we could find in the most nostalgic and romantic hotel in Bangkok. Touches of the hotels long and illustrious heritage are still to be seen in the well-loved chandeliers, artwork and parquet flooring, all complemented by new armoires, ottomans and comfortable sofas, in an eclectic mix.

You might like to spend the first afternoon relaxing or enjoying some traditional treatments in the spa. We will send you the spa menu and will book for you in advance. Dine at a sky bar with 380 views of Bangkok, just a few street away.

Chapter 2. The Train to Chiang Mai
Day 2

Board the comfortable and luxurious Eastern & Oriental Express overnight train to Chiang Mai. Travel in style through the magnificent landscapes of Thailand at a leisurely pace. Relax in one of the bar cars, saloon car or in the privacy of your comfortable compartment. Afternoon tea is served. Later that evening enjoy dinner in one of the beautiful restaurant cars. Retire to your compartment, transformed into a cozy bedroom by your steward.

Chapter 2. Chiang Mai.
Days 3 & 4

After breakfast in your compartment the train arrives in Chiang Mai where you disembark. We will meet you at the station. You will meet your guide who will drive with you into town. During this time we can talk a little about Chiang Mai and your plans for the rest of the day and the following days.

We have reserved a beautiful room for you in an intimate hotel in the old center of Chiang Mai where rooms are laid out over a series of courtyards, framed by carefully trimmed frangipani trees and flowing bougainvillea. The hotel was designed by its owner, a prominent Thai Architect, and is based on Thai temples of the 13th and 14th centuries, the height of the Chinese-influenced culture of northern Thailand.

In Chiang Mai there is plenty to do. Explore the ancient and modern city of Chiang Mai, including its old city walls, gates and city moat, markets, residential areas, Tapae, Chiang Mais main street.

This afternoon we will take you to mount Doi Suthep to Wat Phra Thad Doi Suthep (AD 1384), the most sacred temple in Northern Thailand. Inside the temples cloister lies one of the most sacred stupas in all of Thailand. A panoramic view of the city can be seen from here at 3,500 feet above sea level.

We will give you recommendations for dinner. We like The House, The Restaurant and the popular Riverside (but busy). After the dinner you might like to jump into a tuk-tuk and head to Chiang Mais night bazaar for a stroll among the colorful stalls.

Day 4 is at your leisure. Explore the hills around Chiang Mai or visit some of the impressive temples the city has to offer, we like Wat Umong (or Oomong). The most unique feature of the temple are the intricate tunnels which give the Wat its name (Umong is the Thai word for "tunnel").

Chapter 3. The Mae Taeng trek.
Days 5, 6 and 7

We head north to explore the beauty and culture of Thailand's mountainous north on a three-day soft trek into the jungles surrounding Chiang Mai.

This region of Thailand has long been known for its fantastic trekking and its variety of colorful and diverse local hill tribes. Along the way you will stay in different villages, learning about the tribe's traditional culture and way of life.

The adventure begins with a visit to a colorful market and picture-perfect waterfalls, topped off with a tasty picnic lunch. We drive along winding roads through the hills to the Huay Nam Dung National Park to Shan Mae Sae village.

We reach the village of Baan Mae Jok to discover the unique way of life of the Karen, one of the largest hill tribes of Southeast Asia.

The following morning, we awake to cool mountain breezes and set off under the tropical canopy of shade towards a Karen elephant camp.

A good day of trekking in Huai Nam Dang National Park is rewarded with the spectacular scenery. We enjoy lunch beside a cascading waterfall before reaching a Lahu village, where the welcoming locals host an evening homestay.

The last day of adventure starts with a lazy trip down the Taeng River aboard a traditional bamboo raft. Along the way, we stop off to visit several hill tribe villages before returning to Chiang Mai in the late afternoon.

Chapter 4. The Andaman
Day 8-11

We fly to the tropical beaches of the southern Thailand.

On arrival in Phuket meet you at the airport and travel south towards Pansea Beach, probably the best beach in Phuket. We will reserve an Beach Studio with direct beach access.

The adjacent Surin Beach has a few good restaurants and small little shops so you can stroll out of wherever you are staying and there is something to do close by.

Chapter 5. The Beach
Day 12-14

After breakfast we pick you up take you to the Phi Phi Islands for 3 days of absolute barefoot luxury. The island of Koh Phi Phi seems custom made for lovers. Boasting powder soft beaches, lush tropical jungle and warm clear seas it is the jewel of the Andaman sea. This is the perfect base for diving.

You will stay in an idyllic stretch of soft, pearl white sandy beach on the northern tip of Koh Phi Phi Don. The style of the hotel is a combination of rural Thai charm and five-star comfort, with suites made almost entirely of wood and glass.

Chapter 6. A room with a view.
Day 15

We Travel by sea and land to Phuket Airport, where you will board your flight back to bustling Bangkok!

We will reserve the most romantic room in a recently renovated historic Sino-Portuguese river house nestled alongside the vibrant life of the Chao Phrao River. It is difficult for words to convey just how different this hotel is from the concrete and steel high-rises that now dominate Bangkok. The restaurant, terraces, balconies all present an unfolding panorama of one of Asias finest views, the Ratanakosin skyline. The restaurant is a perfect place for a sunset cocktail overlooking the Temple of the Dawn.

There are a million things to do in Bangkok. Parks, night markets, temples we will give you a list of our top ten things to do for lovebirds, the most romantic settings, nightlife tips, shopping recommendations, and much more.…
